Back to School, Back to Routine: The Ultimate Morning Oral Care Routine for Kids!
It’s that time of year again! School is back in session and the summer vacation schedule of easy mornings and day trips is slowly wrapping up. As the kids head back to school and everyone gets back into the routine of packing backpacks and making sure homework is done - we can't forget to also refresh that morning routine too!
We know that over 50% of children age 6-8 have had a cavity in their baby teeth - and here at Flaus - we're working on changing that! Studies show habits are more ingrained in those that start them young - so here is a morning oral care routine that’s not just effective but also fun enough to make them smile—literally!
Step 1: Flaus (Because Flossing is a Must, Not a Maybe!)
Before your kids run out the door to school, make sure they start their day by flossing. It’s the secret weapon against that pesky plaque. Using an electric flosser, like Flaus, not only helps make flossing more fun, the long ergonomic handle helps them floss independently (without you having to stick your fingers in their mouth to reach their back molars). Flossing disrupts biofilm and bacteria with the precision of a superhero, making it easy for that toothbrush to swoop in brush away all that gunk that you just flossed out! It’s the most essential step to kickstart the morning!
Step 2: Mouthwash – Swish, Swish, Hooray!
For kids 6 and up, next up is a swish of mouthwash! We're big fans of choosing a mouthwash that is alcohol-free and free of artificial flavors and colors. Our top pick? TheraBreath for Kids. It’s gentle, effective, and comes in fun flavors that won’t make them wrinkle their noses. Have them do a little dance while swishing the mouthwash. Playing their favorite song for 30 seconds can make the time fly by! A quick swish after flossing, and they're ready to take on the world—or at least the school day.
Step 3: Brush – The Two Minute Countdown
Now it’s time to brush those pearly whites! We like to choose a toothpaste that’s kid-friendly, with fun flavors and fluoride to help keep cavities at bay. (like Colgate Kids). Help motivate your kids with a special story read only when they are brushing their teeth or with a sticker chart! Two minutes goes by in a flash when you're listening to an amazing story about brushing the cavity monsters away!
Step 4: Tongue Scrape – Bye-Bye, Morning Breath!
Last but definitely not least, let’s tackle that morning breath! A quick tongue scrape can make all the difference. We love the Boka Tongue Scraper—it’s easy to use, small enough for tiny hands to maneuver and super effective in getting rid of those sulfates that cause stinky breath. Just a few gentle scrapes, and they’re minty fresh and ready to tackle that spelling test.
Final Thoughts
With this morning routine, the little ones will be smiling bright in their new school photos. We're all about making oral care a fun and essential part of their day, so they can head back to school feeling confident and ready to shine.
Happy Flausing, swishing, brushing and scraping! Here’s to a school year full of healthy smiles and happy mornings.
