Just starting to use Flaus and have questions? Or maybe you're an avid Flauser but have always wondered what that little pad on the back of your Flaus is for? Well you have questions and we have answers! Let's talk about some tips and tricks to floss with Flaus! With the below information, we're sure that you're on your way to become an A+ Flauser!
How to Put on a new Floss Head
Grab a fresh Flaus Head from your refill stash. Align the skinny part of the Flaus Head with the open ridge on the back of the neck. With your index finger and thumb, push the Flaus Head on to the mount. You will feel it click into place — you’re ready to Flaus!
How to Take off a Flaus Head
Nest the curved neck of the flosser into the inner crease of your fingers, with your finger or thumb placed flat across the back. With both arms of the floss head against a flat surface, gently apply downwards pressure and rotate your finger inwards. The floss head will pop off one side at a time.
How long does it take to become a Flausing pro?
It can take up to 21 days to develop a habit - and developing your Flausing habit is no different! In fact, 90% of our customers report flossing more after Flaus!
We encourage Flausers to floss for 21 days straight when they first get your Flaus. Although Flausing is similar to flossing, there are some differences and Flaus can have a learning curve (plus each mouth is different - so it takes time to understand how Flaus best works with your teeth).
Pro Tip: your Flaus Starter Kit has a Habit tracker inside of it - it will help you keep your Flausing streak alive!
What is the biggest Flausing Tip? Use the Bite Pad!
Use your opposing teeth to apply gentle pressure to the bite pad (located on the back of the device) - this helps you control the pressure as you move the Flaus Head in between your teeth!
Do I need to Flaus in order?
No! You don't need to floss in order, in fact, we suggest that you do your tight spots last! This will help you prolong the life of your Flaus head!
I see three blinking lights on my Flaus / Travel Mode?
Are you seeing three blinking lights when you try to power on your Flaus? That means your Flaus has entered travel mode!
To release your Flaus from Travel Mode, hold down the power button for 5-8 seconds, or until the lights at the bottom blink. Push the power button and your Flaus will power on like normal.
What do the vibrations do? How do they help you floss?
Just like your electric toothbrush helps you clean your teeth easier than a traditional toothbrush, the sonic vibrations in Flaus make flossing easier!
Flaus has 18,000 sonic vibrations per minute that not only help stimulate and massage your gums as you floss, but the vibrations also make getting the floss in between those tight contact points in your teeth easier (you know the ones where all the plaque and food hang out)!
Pro Tip: Your Flaus has three speeds (10K, 14K + 18K), we find that using the higher speeds in those tighter spaces helps to get the floss in and out of there a little easier!
Will the Flaus Heads be accepted in my local recycling program? Is Flaus more wasteful than traditional floss or floss picks?
Did you know that every piece of dental floss ever used still exists in the world today? And that most of it ends up in the landfill, or, even worse, the sea.
Flaus reduces the amount of floss used in a traditional flossing session by 95% and our heads are made with recyclable plastic and use 30% less plastic than floss picks.
Every municipal recycling program is different, so we suggest gathering your Flaus Heads after use and head over to our Recycling page. We'll send you a pre-paid shipping label to send in your oral care products to a dedicated oral care recycling facility.
We're big fans of a healthy mouth and a healthy planet 🌎
How often should I change the Flaus Head?
Just like you brush your teeth with the same toothbrush head, it's perfectly safe and hygienic to use the same piece of floss for a flossing session! If you get any gunk on the floss, just run it under water (or dip it in mouthwash if you want an extra clean)!
We recommend changing your floss head after each use.
Should I Flaus if I have tight teeth, veneers, crowns, severe Periodontitis, or am on blood thinners? What about if I have braces?
Tight Teeth: Absolutely! The sonic vibrations help you move the floss in-between tight teeth with ease. We also use the thinnest floss possible - a monofilament tape floss!
Veneers/Crowns: We always suggest contacting your dentist before using Flaus with veneers / crowns.
Severe Periodontitis/Blood Thinners: Flaus is not recommended for those with severe Periodontitis disease or for those on blood thinners.
Braces: We're almost there! We do have some customers who have successfully used Flaus with their braces and permanent retainers, however, we do not have a special Flaus Head made for braces. We are developing one shortly though - email support@goflaus.com to be added to the waitlist!
How do you C-Shape floss with Flaus?
We have intentionally left some slack in our floss to allow you to create a C + Y shape when you floss!
Curve the floss around your tooth so that it wraps from front to back. This allows you to safely slide the floss down the sides of the tooth, cleaning more surface of the tooth.
If you have any other Flausing questions, please visit our How to Flaus Page or email us at support@goflaus.com. We are excited to hear about your next dentist appointment!
